When the Sky’s Not The Limit
The days of simply getting from point A to point B are so over. Today’s private-jet operators cater to passengers’ every whim, from Alice in Wonderland–themed birthday parties to vitamin water for pets.
Anyone privileged enough to have flown private knows the appeal. Instead of arriving hours before your flight and enduring long lines, bag-check fees, and a security screening that may or may not involve a full pat-down while your fellow passengers watch, you can pull up to the plane a few minutes before takeoff. Someone parks your car. Someone else takes your bag. Yet another person pours you a drink. You climb a few stairs, settle in, and ascend into the skies as smoothly as a bird takes flight.
Once A Bully Always A Bully!
Donald Trump’s bullying of Canada is endless, and Canadians are now starting to turn against its Prime Minister’s pragmatic response.
The Gordie Howe International Bridge is a monument to the perils of appeasing Donald Trump. Canada footed the entire bill for the gleaming new span over the Detroit river to the United States. America’s president then threatened for months to block its opening, relenting only when the United States got a cut of the tolls.
Wendy’s has lost its place as America’s runner-up to McDonald’s, ending a six-year run as the second-largest burger chain, being surpassed by a resurgent Burger King.
Where’s The Beef?
Burger King reclaimed the No. 2 position as its U.S. turnaround gains momentum, with domestic same-store sales jumping 8.5% in the second quarter. Wendy’s, meanwhile, reported a 7% decline in U.S. same-store sales, marking its sixth consecutive quarter of contraction.
China Is Now The World’s Great Oil Power
Forget OPEC. The Chinese Communist Party now calls the shots. The war in Iran has caused the largest supply shock in petroleum history. Yet even when fighting was most intense, oil prices never reached the $150 a barrel many analysts had predicted at the start of the conflict. For this, thank a few governments. Soon after Iranian munitions made the Strait of Hormuz unpassable, Gulf petro-monarchs in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh mandated that extra oil flow through the pipes.
