It’s a great time to be a new engineer, fresh out of college, residing in San Francisco.

As Glassdoor, a job-hunting and salary comparison site reports, those new to the job market in the Bay Area are cashing in on the high salaries for which prominent tech companies are known.

At the most lucrative of the bunch, Facebook, interns are earning a median monthly pay of $8,000, or $96,000 per year.

That’s nearly as high as the median monthly pay at Salesforce and Google, $7,667 and $7,500 respectively, which work out to about $90,000 to $92,000 a year.

That might seem like a lot, but in the Bay Area, it squarely qualifies as “middle income,” according to the Pew Research Center’s Income Calculator. Still, it’s certainly a livable salary, especially compared to Glassdoor’s average intern salary in San Francisco: $43,293 per year, or $3,607 per month before taxes.

Even the lowest-paying on Glassdoor’s top-10 list, Genentech, boasts a median monthly pay of $4,500. That still works out to $54,000 per year — over $10,000 more than the San Francisco average for all interns.
