Mark Palmros’ App Hooks Military To Businesses That Support Them

A new mobile application is seeking to match local first responders and military veterans with patriotic businesses that want to recognize their support, and offer customer incentives, to these individuals — support that could translate into more sales for business owners, according to Mark Palmros, founder of the new app, known as myKlick.

“I asked a lot of veterans, ‘If you knew that a business supported you would you go to them?’ And they said ‘Yes,’” Palmros said. “Then I asked businesses, ‘Do you offer an incentive for military veterans?’ But if they said yes it was usually just by a small sign near the register or a post on their social media pages.”

MyKlick is banking on local businesses to register for free but then post any military discounts in exchange for a visible badge and $20 a month subscription. The initial planned cost for businesses to subscribe was $15 per month but it was later increased. The app is set to launch for android and IOS this week for its first public beta version.

The application is open to the general public, too.

Palmros self-funded the start-up and is seeking angel investors. He added that myKlick plans to donate about 8 percent of subscriptions back to local charities for veterans.

One competitor in the local market that is geared toward military personnel is PCS grades, which is an Angie’s List type review and rating system website for military families that has a strong tie to real estate markets.

“We are not just a website, we are mobile-based,” said Palmros, who put costs for developing myKlick at about $80,000.

Palmros is also the director of Technology for Colure Media, a marketing agency based in New York City; and co-founder of Emme LLC, a software development startup. There are plans to scale the application after a beta version in the Alamo City.
