Sacramento’s startup scene just got hella-cooler. Already home to the 4th “Coolest Coworking space in the US” as ranked by Paste Magazine, Urban Hive cofounders Brandon and Molly Weber launched their expansive new space at the Cannery amidst hundreds of Sacramento civic and business leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators at last night’s launch party.

The Urban Hive at the Cannery is just the latest addition to Sacramento’s growing field of coworking spaces and it seriously raises the bar in terms of how shared working spaces can be exciting, vibrant work places that attract entrepreneurs and startups. It’s yet another example of Sacramento’s emerging dynamic, cool, startup and innovation ecosystem.

The official launch party was preceded by a special VIP ribbon-cutting event featuring Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg who commented, “Building a great city isn’t just about recruiting Fortune 500 companies (referring to Centene), it’s about growing our own! Coworking spaces like The Urban Hive help us do that.”

Steinberg went on further to add that what The Urban Hive is doing is representative of one of the ways the entire city of Sacramento should be branded – as an Urban Technology Lab – a reference to the Sacramento Urban Technology Lab vision that was launched at the recent Innovate Sac event.

The Urban Hive at the Cannery is a significant increase in size over its predecessor in Midtown on H and 19th streets. At 15,000 square feet it’s more than double the space of the original Urban Hive which will now mostly be used for events and purposes other than coworking. The new Cannery space also has an additional 9,000 square feet available to expand into.

Even though the the launch was just yesterday, the new space already has more than 100 companies and 300 members signed up to move in this month, including international brands like Eventbrite, Pandora Music, AngelHack, TED Conferences, and local favorites Bamboo Creative and Moto Interactive.

If you missed the event you missed out on the dynamic energy that’s growing daily in the Sacramento startup community. But, you’ll have another chance to get a taste of it next week at the Startup Holiday Party at I/O Labs downtown – another venture by The Urban Hive’s Brandon Weber.
