Proton Scribe, the company’s AI writing assistant, now works for eight additional languages. Here’s how you can access it.

Proton Scribe, Proton’s privacy-first writing assistant, writes and proofs emails for you — now in eight additional languages.

On Thursday, Proton announced Scribe will now be available in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. With the addition of these new languages, users can compose emails in languages that may not be their own, knowing the results will be accurate and the information contained within will be private. Based on user feedback, more languages will be introduced soon.

Scribe is built into Proton Mail to help you compose and/or improve your email drafts. Designed for privacy, Scribe can be run locally, so your most sensitive and valuable data never leaves your device. Should a user opt not to use Proton Scribe locally, they can trust the Proton no-logs servers or even disable Proton Scribe altogether.

On top of the new languages, both Proton Family and Proton Duo customers will have access to Scribe due to overwhelming demand.

Eamonn Maguire, head of machine learning at Proton, said of this new announcement, “Since launching Proton Scribe to business users, we have seen huge consumer demand for a private way of using AI. Rather than copying sensitive communications into third-party AI tools, people can now use these services directly in their inboxes in a privacy-preserving way.”

“At Proton, our mission is to create tools that mean people don’t have to compromise productivity and privacy,” he continued. “With more plans supporting Proton Scribe, and its new additions, we’re making privacy-first AI accessible to even more people.”

Unlike other AI services, Proton Scribe is not trained on data from user inboxes, thanks to Proton’s zero-access encryption. Proton never retains any data or information typed into Proton Scribe and does not share data with third parties.

Proton Scribe is now available for the following plans:

Proton Family
Proton Duo
Proton Mail Business (as an add-on)
